Top 100 - Aint No Mountain High Enough, Dionne Bromfield # 47

Story by Esty

A few years ago, I was Maid of Honour at my best friend Lindy's wedding in England. Lindy has never been the type of girl who starts planning her wedding at age of six, so naturally, when it came to her wedding day she was rather laissez-faire about the preparations. So much so, that two days before the wedding we still had no florist or flowers arranged. Thankfully, one of the bridesmaids had experience as a florist (at least we thought she did) and volunteered to source the flowers and make the bouquets. Needless to say the bouquets were a disaster complete with baby breath and white cotton string. The morning of the wedding, Lindy and I were racing up and down the streets of Essex looking for a florist to rescue the day, all whilst deliriously singing at the top of our lungs "Ain't no mountain high enough ain't no river wide enough'. This song had been the anthem for a friendship for many years, so the fact that we were singing it like two school girls was to be expected. What was entirely unexpected however, was hearing it playing on the radio in the car on our way back to the wedding with flowers in tow. It was like our life had for a moment turned into a romantic comedy movie and that was the soundtrack to it. Every time I hear this song I think of Lindy and I turning a disaster into another opportunity to behave like school kids! What joy!
